The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) has recently made pilot (2-year) grants to two well-established and knowledgeable, not for profit, vaccine development organizations – IAVI and TBVI – to provide consultative services to CTVD (Collaboration for TB Vaccine Discovery) investigators who have novel TB vaccine concepts or candidates but little direct product development experience.
With support from these grants, TBVI and IAVI will now offer consulting services on TB vaccine development planning, regulatory strategy, process development and manufacturing, pre-clinical and clinical studies, project management, and quality assurance. This consulting service is tailored to individual principle investigators to discuss and advise on their specific needs. All costs associated with the service are covered through these pilot grants. Approximately 5-6 investigators will be supported under this program during the two year pilot period. If the foundation determines the program has successfully met an important TB research community need and helped to accelerate development of novel, “next generation” TB candidates, the program will be considered for expansion and continuation at the end of the pilot period.
