TBVI Advocacy & Resource Mobilisation

April 2009 - April 2012
3 million US dollar, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

The TuBerculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI) Advocacy and Resource Mobilisation project was initiated to build a firm base for advocacy and resource mobilisation activities for a tuberculosis vaccine research & development (R&D) portfolio supported by TBVI.

The 3 year project was made possible by a 3 million US dollar grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This allowed TBVI to build and sustain an advocacy and communications infrastructure, with the following objectives:

  1. Mobilize financial resources from governments, foundations and private industry to support the mission of TBVI;

  2. Increase awareness and support among policy makers and other opinion leaders for TB vaccine research and development;

  3. Increase the scientific community’s engagement, including non-European researchers, in the development of new tuberculosis vaccines.

The project was successfully closed on April 1, 2012. TBVI's advocacy and resource mobilisation activities are being continued with the support of a range of donors, among which the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
