ESI TBVI
The Establishment, Strategy and Initial Activities (ESI) of TuBerculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI): Coordination of European efforts with global research initiatives, is a project aimed to establish TBVI as a private public partnership.
It will ensure an appropriate linkage between projects supported by the European Commission and global initiatives aiming at the development of new vaccines against tuberculosis.
ESI TBVI has 2 major goals:
- to improve coordination of European efforts and global research initiatives towards development of TB vaccines;
- to mobilize additional resources for development of new TB vaccines.
The specific objectives of ESI TBVI are:
- to establish TuBerculosis Vaccine Initiative (TBVI) as a legal entity;
- to define a strategic plan for TBVI;
- to execute initial activities to promote efforts to complete TB vaccine development. This will include mobilization of additional resources to complement existing efforts that are made at global level;
- to sustain and expand project management activities in the area of TB vaccine development as in TBVAC.
Expected results:
- Establishment of TBVI as a legal entity;
- Improvement of the level of advocacy for the completion of TB vaccine development;
- Mobilization of new resources to complement existing efforts that are made on the global scene;
- Improved coordination of global Research &Development activities related to TB vaccine development. Sustained Project management activities in the area of TB vaccine development, including vaccine-specific advisory activities.
ESI TBVI is a 2 year project and started May 2008. It is funded by the European Commission under the Framework Program 7 with an amount of 429,000 euro.
TBVI will be established as a separate legal entity descending from TBVAC, a successful European Commission funded project on tuberculosis vaccine development.
