Our Projects
By linking the greatest research institutes in Europe and around the world, TBVI is increasing the chances of finding the best solutions for tuberculosis. Research done by our network has already resulted in a strong portfolio of new vaccine candidates, discoveries in vaccine enhancing adjuvants, and new biomarkers for monitoring clinical trials.
After successfully coordinating the TBVAC project (2004-2009), TBVI now coordinates its successor NEWTBVAC (2010-2014). Both projects are Framework Programs funded by the European Union to identify new TB vaccine candidates. Over 35 universities, research institutes and industries are involved: TBVI coordinates, facilitates, supports and brings expertise to this network.
TBVI has a special project to accelerate pre- and early clinical development of TB vaccine candidates, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Together with the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Germany, we coordinate the TBTEA project, a platform that brings together European and African research organisations to improve and strengthen collaboration in TB vaccine research. Apart from the projects we manage, TBVI is involved in several other projects too.
Next to research projects, TBVI is active in advocay and fundraising activities. We raise awareness about the problem of tuberculosis and the need for new vaccines and we work on the development of innovative financing mechanisms that can support our research.
