TBVI at the 42nd World Union Conference on Lung Health

24-10-11

TBVI's presence at the 2011 Union Conference in Lille was nothing less than successful. Together with Aeras, TBVI has advocated the need for new TB vaccines, organising a range of activities to inform people on the progress in TB vaccine research and development. The two organisations hosted a booth together and organised a symposium and a networking reception.

Visitors of the shared Aeras / TBVI booth were given the opportunity to join our call for new vaccines. Together they filled up a worldmap with good reasons to invest in research and development.

TBVI's Vice-president  Joris Vandeputte inspired advocates and activists in the Stop TB Advocacy Corner to broaden their arguments in the fight against TB.

Tuberculosis kills millions of people per year and million more fall ill. Unfortunately this argument doesn't seem to be strong enough to bring in the necessary funds to end the disease. Joris Vandeputte explained how TBVI broadened the argument for investment in new TB vaccines, calculating the cost of TB in Europe and the return on investment once vaccines can be marketed.

TBVI, together with Aeras and Instite Pasteur Lille, organized the symposium 'Partnerships to Accelerate TB Vaccine Development'. The abstracts of the symposium can be found here.
