TBVI at EFC conference: TB vaccine development is socially innovative research

09-02-12

Barcelona - "Socially innovative Research finds place in those fields typically abandoned by normal ‘market’ mechanisms. It is a way of doing research differently, to bring solutions to societal challenges that are neglected by normal market mechanisms, say industry and finance, and hence need a particular approach." That's what TBVI's vice president Joris Vandeputte stated at the 2012 Research Forum Stakeholders'  of the European Foundation Centre in Barcelona.

In his presentation he explained how foundations can play an important role in socially innovative research. He used the example of the TBVI foundation how this works in the development of new tuberculosis vaccines. Furthermore he encouraged other foundations to join TBVI in the fight against TB, among others by using their networks, their expertise, and supporting innovative funding initiatives.
