Expertise and teamwork

Vaccine and biomarker programs supported by TBVI are each dissected into various stages of research and development. TBVI’s Steering Committee, consisting of Europe’s top tuberculosis researchers, decides on the funding of projects and determines whether or not a vaccine candidate or biomarker candidate moves to a next stage.

To help bridge the gap from discovery to development, product development teams (PDT) and clinical development teams (CDT) are involved with each vaccine development:

  • Product development teams support researchers in getting their product from discovery to the preclinical phase.
  • Clinical development teams help bring the vaccine candidate further towards clinical evaluation.

These teams of international experts in vaccine research and development hold regular meetings with the researchers to review progress, to advise and bring in expertise.

PDTs and CDTs report their findings to the Steering Committee, which then decides on funding for the following stages of development.

As part of our unique approach, the responsibility and ownership of vaccines
and biomarker candidates always remain with the individual partners. TBVI
does not claim any rights.

New vaccines should be accessible and affordable for the developing world. A commitment to this is included in each agreement of support as well as the articles of association of TBVI. We want those people who need the vaccines most to have them as soon as possible, without (financial) barriers.

As part of our unique approach, the responsibility and ownership of vaccines and biomarker candidates always remain with the individual partners.
