Georges Thiry

Dr. Georges Thiry is a consultant for TBVI since 2006, and chairs the Product Development Team.

He currently works for PATH Vaccine Development (Washington DC) as director of the development of new Rotavirus vaccines and leads partnerships with manufacturers in India, China, Brazil and Australia. He is also director of portfolio and project management.

Before PATH, Dr. Thiry worked for the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (2000-2007; New York) as director of project management, and of process, manufacturing and quality assurance (QA). He participated to the development and evaluation of vaccine candidates against HIV in Uganda, Kenya and India.

Prior to IAVI, Dr. Thiry worked at GlaxoSmithKline (Belgium) from 1996 to 2000 as project manager where he led the development of vaccine candidates against Rotavirus, MenB, RSV, EBV, Influenza as well as new adjuvants.

Dr. Thiry started his career as genetic engineer at Solvay in 1984 (Brussels) in the construction of new veterinary vaccines, and improvement of existing ones. He spent three years in the manufacturing facility of Solvay Animal Health (Minneapolis), active in the development and licensure of animal vaccines for EU and US.

Dr. Thiry obtained his PhD in Science, Genetics and Microbiology, in 1984 at the University of Liège, Belgium and is a Project Manager Professional from PMI (2005).
