5. Prof. Jorge Soares

Professor Jorge Soares, MD PhD, is Director of Health and Human Development Department of  the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal. He is also Professor of Pathology at the Lisbon Medical School.

Professor Soares has been Head of the Pathology Department of Lisbon Cancer Institute (1985-2009) and Director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences at Lisbon (2001-2003). He furthermore served as Professor of Legal Medicine and Ethics at the Lisbon Medical School (2001-2003) and Professor of Pathology at the Medical Sciences Faculty (1996-2006).

Professor Soares is Member of the Portuguese Academy of Medicine and Academico Correspondiente de la Real Academia Nacional de España (1999), and of  “Conselho Nacional de Ética para as Ciências da Vida” (2003-2008). He is National Expert at the 3rd “Europe Against Cancer” Council of the European Union and Past-President of the Portuguese Societies of Pathology (1997-1999), and Senology (2004-2006), as well as Sociedade das Ciências Médicas de Lisboa (2003-2005).
